WelcomeGalen Clinical softwareGalen is an integrated suite of software that satisfies operational and information requirements for patient treatment and hospital management. Richard Cherry’s background as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon and Andrew Hayes’ background in IT have enabled the system to be produced in a way that simultaneously meets the needs of both clinicians and managers, providing previously unavailable reports in one comprehensive system It is noticeable that no one ever challenges the accuracy of Galen data. We believe that this is because front-line clinical staff use it for their day-today operational work and have an instinctive “ownership” and trust in what has been entered into the system. Galen7 has a SQL-server backend and a browser-based thin client front end. The only software requirement for a Hospital intranet version is that the individual PCs run Internet Explorer version 6.0 or higher. Encryption is by 128-bit SSL for the Internet version.  Galen7 login screen The individual modules interlink so that conflicts cannot occur (such as assigning a surgeon to a theatre session or clinic whilst s/he is on annual leave etc). Clinical information entered in an outpatient session is automatically available in theatre or ward etc whilst operation notes can similarly be viewed in chronological sequence in clinic and elsewhere. We frequently transfer data between Galen and other systems, with feeds and updates between PAS and Galen in the NHS and the Independent sector. One example is the creation by UHCW of lists of patients who have been booked to attend overflow clinics run by our Limited Liability Partnership, the transfer of that data to the Oak House Galen7 system and the transfer back to UHCW of the file with all necessary outcome data added.  |
